Michael Cohen, AKA Cohenbeats, started his musical career at 17, rapping and making beats as part of the local Israeli Hip Hop trio Cohen@Mushon. Influenced by the Native Tongue movement, the band introduced a new style of Tel Aviv hip hop, and achieved mainstream success with 2 albums, extensive tours and even a radio smash hit.
In 2008 Cohen took part in the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona. This experience first exposed him to the worldwide beat movement and connected him with people like Dorian Concept, Teebs and Fatima. Cohen began developing his production style and making instrumental Hip Hop. in 2011, Cohen@Mushon decided to take a hiatus, and Cohen relocated to LA, where he connected with the local scene, working with local talents like Samiyam, Mndsgn, Shafiq Husayn and Open Mike Eagle.
Still feeling a deep bond to his homeland and a will to present a unique sound, he released Milk & Honey Vol.1, an instrumental beat album based solely on Israeli samples, via the Tel Aviv Raw Tapes label. He also teamed up with rapper/producer Jeremiah Jae, for a joint EP called pennies (released 2014 on YellowMask).
in 2014, Cohen returned to his hometown of Tel Aviv. He released “Thank You Los Angeles”, a free beat tape containing his best work from his time in LA, and also released a solo rap EP called rap, featuring some beats from his LA friends. He is currently working on Milk & Honey Vol. 2 and plotting his return to the city of angels…
